People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.

We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.

Introduction to Black and White Photography. What makes a good Black and White shot?

We will look at the contrast and using textures. How does the camera see the image and how do we create Black and White images in a camera or in post-production. We will look for some good examples and set some exercises.

This is a more advanced course and assumes you understand the basics of photography and controlling your camera.

Macro photography is a unique form of photography that involves photographing small objects to make them look life-sized or more significant in the photo. The usual subjects include flowers and small insects, which we don't normally get to see up close with the naked eye.

The class will start when the insects are more active. So be ready to explore and capture breathe-taking macro images.

It was as if this guy wanted his photo taken. Riding in my car along Rt. 256, I heard the beautiful singing of this Yellow Warbler. He sang, preened and posed for me. Such a beautiful bird. This photo was taken the week of the "Biggest Week in American Birding." Nikon Z9, Nikkor z 600mm. f.6.3 VR S lens. Handheld from the car.

Title or Location: Whitefish Point, Michigan
I had driven the 5 hour trip 2 other times from the Toledo, Oh area to Whitefish Point, Michigan without success of seeing the aurora. On August 31 I woke up about 4:30am to get ready for a visit at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge for a day of wildlife photography. During the day I was watching the forecast for an aurora later that evening. With another high percentage prediction for an aurora I decided to try it once again. So a rush home to pickup the wife and another 5 hour trip to Whitefish

This is Bald Eagle "Pa". I have been following the couple Ma and Pa for 9 years now. Their nest is in a wildlife area in Fremont, OH. As I approached the park gate, "Pa" came flying over to pose for his photo. He does this quite often as I believe he knows me and does not have a fear. I get my pics and leave. The couple does have hatchlings in the nest at this time. The photo was taken by the Nikon Z9, Nikkor Z 600mm. f/6.3 VR S lens. Handheld.

Title or Location: Monroe Power Plant Discharge Channel (AKA: the hot hole)
In recent years, I've seen more and more of the white pelicans in southeast Michigan. Large flocks of them tend to congregate near the power plant where there are plenty of fish for the taking. They are an impressive sight and no matter how many I see, I am still astounded by the fact that we have pelicans in Michigan!

Title or Location: Just north of Brechin on Hwy 169.
May 10 the northern lights hit a G5 storm, a KP index of 9, the highest it will go, and the best storm we've seen in over 20 years. I drove my 10 year old son north to see them, this was a chance of a lifetime. I managed to get several amazing photos. Canon R6M2, RF10-20mm lens at 10mm, 30sec at f4, iso 1000, manual focusing. This was looking more north-west as most of the bright colours could be seen to the south, west and just north of us.

Cremorne Point is always a favourite choice to capture the southerly sunsets with the Sydney Opera House and the city skyline in the frame. This isn't a long exposure shot but a motion blur added to the water in post production.

Title or Location: Stub Stewart State Park Hilltop area
This was the day of famous Northern Lights visible in most of the North America. Stubs Stewart is the most ideal dark area for star gazing so I reached there around 11pm. As expected, it was full of enthusiasts. The lights were predicted to be at peak between 10pm - 2am. Around 2pm, when we though the "show was over", the lights started getting incredibly bright, and that is when this picture was taken. Interestingly, the lights were bright in some regions and other regions were faded enough to

Title or Location: Tacking Point Lighthouse, Port Macquarie
Last February, I left Sydney with my friends at 6pm to capture the first Milky Way view of 2024. I was very anxious because I saw a lot of clouds on the way, but I was really happy to see clear skies as I passed Newcastle. When we arrived at the lighthouse, fortunately we were the only ones in the group, so we were able to take photos without any disturbance. The lighthouse light, which was not too bright, was very helpful in filming.
