50mm Lens Meetup

50mm Lens Meetup

Saturday 14 October
Rivertown - Warehouse District - 11am - 2 Hours
Detroit Photography Group
The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer’s gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we’ll review the basic camera settings. We’ll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

A group of BMX'ers were having a tournament at the Toledo Speedway. Knowing that it takes practice, I was quite impressed with intricate maneuvers and skill of these young boys (and girls) at the event. This particular youngster flew down the ramp, rounded the corners of the track and set himself up with good momentum to get some airtime when he hit the bank. I had mentally composed a shot and after waiting was finally able to capture a good mid-air shot with the sun setting in the background.

I took my son to see an old friend because he wanted to play with wire wool and try and get some "cool" pictures. We also took some led masks with us too. Was an eventful night and I'm sure somewhere along the line will see the rest of the results here

Being that the Maumee River is the largest river basin in all the great lakes, the waterway itself and its interconnecting bridges hold much significance. Bridges are a mammoth civil engineering undertaking. The bridge is well designed but does not take away from the natural aesthetics of the region.

I live near the water. As I worked in my garden, this eagle landed near the water's edge. It stayed long enough for me to grab my good old Cannon Rebel and I was able to capture several images with my 200mm lens. The bird seemed to have no fear of me. I moved slowly peacefully towards it and I ended up about 25' away. I did not want to scare it, so I only captured a few images. When I had finished, the bird remained here for quite some time. It was an amazing experience. I did crop the image to

Title or Location: My front yard
As a nature photographer I love shooting birds. When it's difficult to get out in the field I can look out my window at the birdhouse I have outside by my front door. It was close to sundown when I happened to look out my window to see this Black-capped Chickadee entering one of the birdhouses. The bird kept flittering over to my bird feeder then back to the birdhouse, so I grabbed my camera, waited for its return. I attempted to get an in-flight photo, but these birds are extremely fast and tin
